Frequently Asked Questions
We’ve answered some of the most common questions we get from clients before and after their garden projects.
From turf aftercare to garden room planning, here’s what you need to know before getting started.
Can you remove my old fence before installing a new one?
Yes – we take care of removing and disposing of old fencing as part of the job.
We’re licensed waste carriers (CBDU554977), so all materials are taken away responsibly and your garden is left tidy.
Do you install pond filters and pumps as part of the service?
Absolutely. We can supply and install pond filters, UV lights, pumps and starter kits to keep your pond clear and healthy.
We’ll also advise you on the best setup for your garden’s size and layout.
What materials do you use to ensure fire pits and BBQ's are heat-resistant?
We use fire bricks, concrete blocks, and heat-proof adhesives to ensure all fire pits and BBQ areas are safe and durable.
Every build is designed to withstand high temperatures and regular use.
How long do flower walls last?
Our artificial flower walls are UV-protected and weather-resistant, meaning they can last several years outdoors without fading.
Indoors or in sheltered areas, they’ll stay vibrant for even longer with minimal upkeep.
What are the dos and don'ts when having natural turf laid?
If we’re laying new turf for you, there are a few key things you’ll need to do (and avoid) to help it root properly and stay healthy:
Do:
- Keep the area clear. Avoid walking on the freshly laid turf. If you need to cross it, use wooden planks to distribute weight evenly.
- Water it twice a day. Water first thing in the morning and again in the evening for at least 10 days – especially during warm or dry weather.
- Follow our aftercare advice. We’ll guide you on when to mow, how much to water, and what to watch out for while it establishes.
Don’t:
- Don’t let the turf dry out. Dry or curled turf can shrink at the seams and fail to root. Keep it consistently damp during the first two weeks.
- Don’t mow too soon. Wait until the grass has firmly rooted – usually after 2–3 weeks. The first cut should be light and with a sharp blade.
- Don’t water during the hottest part of the day. Midday watering can scorch the grass or cause it to dry too quickly. Stick to morning and evening when the sun is low.
We’ll handle the ground preparation and laying, but your role in the early aftercare is just as important for a great-looking lawn that lasts.
What is the difference between a pergola and a pergoda?
A pergola is a timber garden structure with open sides and a slatted or roofed top, used to create shade or define an outdoor space.
A pergoda is often just a misspelling or confusion with a pagoda, which is a decorative, often tiered structure of East Asian origin.
We build custom pergolas suited to modern gardens.
Will you still manage the full project if I'm not based in Stockport?
Yes – if you’re within our 10-mile service area, we’ll fully manage your project from start to finish, just as we would locally.
Whether you’re in Wilmslow, Marple, Didsbury or beyond, you’ll get the same hands-on service, expert coordination, and high-quality results we’re known for.
How do you make sure decking drains properly?
We build decking with a slight gradient and leave spacing between boards to allow water runoff.
We also ensure the subframe is ventilated and, where needed, install drainage channels underneath to prevent water pooling.
